Susato holds her quill to the journal, glancing over her shoulder to Kazuma for his approval. When she gets it, she has to take a deep breath before she starts writing. ]
[Being unable to write, unable to even go anywhere, Kazuma is understandably restless. He wants information, something, anything. The only person he could think of that could have that is Reaper. Despite his apprehension towards that man, he has to know. Did he really end up taking him out? The town's not on fire yet.
Hope Susato doesn't mind him hovering behind her as well, reading, waiting.]
[It didn't surprise him that he was contacted over the 76 noctaere incident, since he had surmised in the skirmish that Kazuma had been involved in some of 76's wounds.
At least the fighting was over and 76 was settled when the message came to him. He recognized Susato's writing based on their previous conversation.]
The noctaere has been dealt with. Is it safe to assume Kazuma made it through the incident as well?
[ Susato glances at Kazuma again once the reply comes through, something she’s probably going to do for a bit until she gets some sense of rhythm for the conversation. Or at least until she’s not quite so nervous.
They are on the same page on this, though, and she knows what Kazuma wants. ]
He is being well-cared for at home. [ She doesn’t care what Kazuma says, the Mikotoba house is his home too. Always has been. ] What has become of 76? And what about you?
I expected as much. Your house seems to have become the life of the party where noctaere healing is concerned. 76 didn't beat the stuffing out of him too much?
[After all, he expected that if Kazuma was attacking the wolf-skull noctaere, that the same treatment was likely replied with. He had managed to escape with his own injuries because he hadn't fought physically.]
He's sleeping right now. I treated his wounds as best as combat medicine allows, but he's too stubborn to die.
[ ......She can't argue with that, though this would be the first she actually succeeded in literal, dreamotion noctaere healing. Probably the last time, for how well it's worked since (it hasn't). ]
They have that in common, it seems. [ She looks at Kazuma unapologetically, because she knows he knows it's true. ] We also did the best we could. He should also be sleeping, but it helps him greatly to know 76 is safe. Thank you.
[ Because she somehow doubts Reaper would be responding so calmly and quickly if 76 was not. ]
[There's a light thumping of Kazuma's tail after he reads both of their replies. Reaper doesn't need to know how badly he got hurt by the old man! Further rubbing it in that it's Reaper who did manage to quell 76 in the end. Damn.]
Aren't you concern as well? [And don't scold him about sleeping. He knows you've been dealing with nightmares. He stares down at the pages, wondering if there was anything else to say.] Where are they? He sstill needss further assistance? [He didn't miss that "As best as combat medicine allows" detail. Yujin isn't the only doctor and looking into Noctaere stuff either. So if he needs further attention when it's safe to do so...]
He's lurking over your shoulder no doubt. Chomping at the bit for news about the big daddy of his life?
[He was trolling, aware he could needle Kazuma without having to see the guy pouting or snapping about him poking back.]
He's alive, and he'll require healing time. Everyone should be used to that, given how reckless he is. Thankfully, I had a dance off with the undead flower wolf, and two legs worked better than the four.
. . . Don't. [ give him the satisfaction. She tilts her journal away from Kazuma's view for a second, just in case he has any ideas about grabbing the quill out of her hand. Not that he could write anyway, but still. ] He's just trying to get a rise out of you.
[ 'Big daddy' though... the condescending tone she reads clearly doesn't please her either, but they basically need Reaper right now. ]
Is time all that he requires? Where are you writing from at the moment?
Perhaps. If the noctaere rises up again, he might require more serious medical attention.
[He hadn't tested how corruption worked and what was required to shift to noctaere. It's why he hadn't slept; he wasn't risking getting his head torn off while he rested.]
[ Given the chance, she probably would have guessed that they were in the forest, which pretty much indicates just how useful Reaper's response is. She has to wonder whether it rung any bells within Kazuma though, like maybe the battle would come back to him and he'd suddenly remember where in the woods he and 76 fought--if they'd even made it that far.
A sigh. ]
Then there is nothing else to be done? Kazuma-sama is in no condition to move anywhere, but perhaps I can arrange something if you find your combat medicine inadequate.
[Generally he kept his locations secure, and with the knowledge that Kazuma was in no condition to apparently come sniffing around, he felt no pressing need to divulge exactly where he was. The less people knew then the better for them.]
Once he wakes up, I'll reassess his condition. Concentrate on Kazuma, since I imagine the old man will be upset if something happened to the kid.
And if you need help getting Kazuma to bed, I know some great lullabies.
[ Lullabies? Psh! No. She has no problems getting Kazuma (in)to bed, thanks. She will just toss him...... wait.
So he won't tell them... Maybe that's OK, actually. He knows there's good reason for Jack being secretive about certain things, even his name. This is just more of that, she assumes. ]
That won't be necessary. I will ensure nothing else happens to him. [ She tries not to think about the fact that she's had similar thoughts before, and shit still managed to hit the fan. ]
But please tell me once you've reassessed his condition, and if he's able to send us a message once he has the strength, it would put both of us at ease.
Edited (a very necessary edit, or something) Date: 2022-03-10 03:03 pm (UTC)
Good. Nothing works quite as effectively as a sister.
[He wouldn't openly admit it, but it was true. He had experience with a sister being very persistent, so he wasn't about to count Susato out on any means.]
I will. Once he's had a few more hours, I will nudge him awake to check on him and see that he send you a message to pass along.
[ Her eyes seem to linger on the word 'sister,' but she otherwise seems to regard the message as a whole. So now they know 76 is safe. Reaper won't say where, but even if he did, there wouldn't be much they could do about it.
And he would pass on the message to have 76 contact them once he's well enough, which would hopefully be soon.
.........There is nothing else she can think of, so after lingering long enough for Kazuma act huffy or have his say, she decides that is sufficient. ]
[ Well dang, Reaper, what did you expect, a novel? Susato certainly didn't. By now she's had more contact with Jack in person than not, but she'll still remember that handwriting from the first time they spoke.
There's a smile that seems to widen as Reaper's jab comes through. ]
You did. Does delivering our message count as one of your services? [ Are they even now? It looks like Reaper already took his journal back. ] How is his condition?
[ ......She didn't want Kazuma to exert any unnecessary effort, so he's probably still hanging out in her room. Susato herself has probably dozed off a time or two, but Kazuma in that condition plus them waiting to hear about Jack do not a restful sleep make. The lights are off, so Iris the bunny shows off her fake sky against the ceiling as usual, and she rolls over to show Kazuma the page by the light of her daruma bookmark. ]
[Reaper held the journal steady so 76 could write in it, and this answer was far more satisfactory for him. He knew 76 would sleep again soon, and that's what was needed, but if this kind of messaging kept Kazuma from running around, then fine. He'd help.]
No. You didn't call on me for help, so I still owe you. That stands for when you want to call upon it.
Once I get some food into him, I expect he'll get back to sleep. He's been doing that a lot, and he's not as rough as he was when I brought him to your family for repairs.
[Yes, it's great that his little sister is here, otherwise he definitly rip a new one about the "big daddy" and needing "lullabies". He might have knocked a few things in the background with his tail out of great annoyance. It's fine, he'll put them back up as they were later, once they've finished making conversation with Reaper.
There's nothing else to do but wait. He could rest since there's really no chance they'll hear from 76 soon, but he just ends up pacing around Mikotoba's home. Soon as Susato calls for, he waste no time coming up to her side and probably breaking some personal space to properly read what is written in the journal. Handwriting is familiar, sounded like the old man in writing too.
Just as Reaper surmised, he felt this wave of relief after finally hearing, or reading some kind of news that things are going to be okay for the old man. He just wished he was there for him.]
Good...He sshould have all the rest he needss.
[What's this about owing Susato though...? Probably for helping 76 the last time. He might have grumble something under his breath about needing his help, but he'll keep those thoughts to himself.]
Careful he doessn't accidentally change the food. [He's not sure how much of that Noctaere side is still clinging to him, but better to a warning than nothing. And now, a moment he must begrudgingly say.] Thank him, for keeping uss informed...and ssaving him.
[ Oh... she never mentioned that, huh? It's alright. Kazuma assumes correctly anyway, and she doesn't really intend to keep any secrets. She stares at Kazuma for a notably long pause before she actually processes his response.
She shakes her head to bring herself back around, and commits quill to paper again. ]
Thank you for saving him. And for keeping your word. [ Was she supposed to actually write the first part? It definitely feels important. ] He says to be careful not to accidentally change his food.
